>Health & happiness

>“Don’t let you get in your own way”. I heard this quote the other day (sorry I can’t remember where!) and it stuck with me. So much of what we strive for in life – whether it pertains to career, relationship, or health – is in fact hindered by us!

Why do you stay in that job you hate?

Why haven’t you applied to that dream grad program?

Why aren’t you maintaining a healthy weight?

Why haven’t you been exercising regularly?

Why are you letting him/her walk all over you?

Outside factors surely influence but the only person to change these things is you. Life is busy and hectic and will probably always be. So if you’re putting off what you really want in life, what are you waiting for? I am continuously reminded of this working at a hospital. Life is precious and it can it’s not a given. Life is a privilege. Run with it .
* * *
In thinking about life, love and what makes me at peace, I couldn’t help but think about what about this little blog and leading a healthy lifestyle in general, truly makes me happy. I’m not talking the number on a scale or how I feel in a bathing suit, but what about being healthy makes me truly smile.
The first thing that came to mind was running. In all honesty, if I had one week to live I would spend my last days running. And I would run and run and run the most in pleasurable way I know how – with no watch and lots of scenery!

When you’re not crunched for time try going for a leisurely jog without your Garmin (GPS) watch and no set course or plan. Jam out to soul-sooothing music (think Jack Johnson-ish) and let your mind go free. It’s liberating.
I next thought about how eating healthy makes me happy. Besides fitting into my jeans and rarely getting sick, I thought about how I feel after eating a clean meal and how it fuels me with nutrients. When I eat clean and nutrient dense I leave the meal feeling clean, and nutrient dense but unlike many chemical-filled meals, I could get up and head out for a run if I wanted to! No post-meal nap required, just pure fuel!

And of course, a few items came to mind…
Green juice. From what I’ve read, drinking green juice on an empty stomach (especially first thing in the morning) is like a surge of vitamins throughout your body. An empty tummy and little fiber (lost in the pulp) allows for speedy digestion and quick absorption of nutrients.
Kombucha juice. Supports a healthy digestive system and metabolism. Organic and raw. I swear I can feel an energy buzz after guzzling one of these babies.
Green Monster smoothies. Add fresh spinach to your favorite smoothie. I swear you can’t taste it!
Hot/cold salad bowls. Mix of roasted veggies (here, sweet potatoes) and chilled veggies. Top with a serving of hummus and it becomes a savory meal.
Summer salads. Add diced mangoes, strawberries, or apples to your favorite traditional salads for a refreshing twist.
Sweet potato fries. 4 ingredients (potatoes, sea salt, pepper, and olive oil spray), quick and an uber comfort food. Puts MickyD’s to shame. Recipe here
Garbanzo bean pancakes. Yes, pancakes that taste like traditional restaurant quality (in my opinion, even better!) but don’t leave you feeling like you ate a brick. Recipe here.
Pancakes topped with coconut milk yogurt. I’ve gone to heaven.
Fresh produce. Something about a fridge full of fresh fruit and veggies makes me giddy.

And, coffee. What? I’m being honest. You can read about my quest to quit consume less here, here and here.

If you can define what about a healthy lifestyle makes you genuinely happy (or what will) beyond the vanity reasons, you’re much more likely to stick with one.

What are your reasons for maintaining or beginning a healthy lifestyle?

What recipes are mainstream in your diet for good reason?

>What’s that in the sky?

>Despite a fun weekend spent with the Manfriend’s family, the weather was c-r-a-p-p-y. We spent their last da sightseeing and dined at Old Ebbitt, a historic restaurant (founded in 1956) next to the White House (you may remember the last time I took my fam there).

I wasn’t that hungry but wanted something more than a boring garden salad.
Seared seafood + salad was the perfect choice.
Shrimp, scallops, muscles, calamari, roasted red peppers, portabello mushrooms tossed in olive oil, sea salt, black pepper over fresh greens and served with a side of basil vinaigrette.

Aaaaand a glass of Prosecco 😉

Today the weather is quite an improvement

Sunny and high of 82!
Although 3-11:30pm hospital shifts are not my favorite, I’m quite content as I type up this post on our back deck listening to the birdies chirp away.
Michael is surely enjoying the warm change as well!
(Like his new haircut? Before pic here)
In the spirit of blooming spring, I started my day off with a refreshing glass of Green Juice (a la my new juicer)
The players
cucumber
apple
celery
kiwi
ginger
garlic
parsley

Which nicely accompanied a Cinnamon-Vanilla Protein Cupcake

How cute are these new lil cupcake dishes?

Cake mix
1 serving vanilla protein powder (SunWarrior ovaa here)
1 T egg whites
1/2 t vanilla extract (I found an all natural version at Trader Joe’s)
baking powder, pinch
stevia, 1 serving
sea salt, teeeeny pinch
h20, to moisten

Microwave 1 min, 30 seconds

Topping
stevia-sweetened fat-free Greek Yogurt
crushed walnuts, nutmeg to garnish

Well in the spirit of nice weather, I’m off to enjoy this lovely day before work tonight! I feel a long run in the sun coming up 🙂

How’s the weather in your neck of the woods? <–Wait, are we really talking about the weather?

Tell me about your weekend!

>Birfday, Manfriend’s familia, & Giveaway winner!

>It’s been a craaaazyy weekend over here! Thursday was my sister’s birthday and I surprised her by inviting her BFF from home and planning a surprise dinner with 8 of her closest friends.

We went to the fantastic Cava Mezze in Capitol Hill.

Tapas galore (scallops, shrimp, muscles, hummus/pita, mac n’ cheese, wilted greens, fresh salads, roasted veggies) and fabulous cocktails. I went with champagne because 1) It’s was a celebration (duh) and 2) That seems to be how I roll these days.

Dinner and great convo led to dancing…naturally.

Yup. It was one of those nights. Danced and laughed til my feet and stomach hurt.

At one bar a guy asked me (cause what guy doesn’t use this pick-up line), “Hey babe, what are you drinking tonight?” Without hesitation I replied “Milk. He walked away.
Speaking of letting a guy know you’re not interested, have you seen this video? I freakin love this girl. And want to be her BFF.
* * *
And the main reason I haven’t blogged all weekend is….the Manfriend’s family is here! All 10 of them!
They arrived Friday morning and spent the day at the National Mall. I was pretty busy with Kelsey’s bday plans so I met them Saturday morning at the National Zoo. Being slightly tired from the night’s shenanigans, I jogged to meet them around 10am because 8 was not in the cards for me
(I look ridiculously cheesy in this picture. Cool jacket too. Thought you’d also like a nice laugh.)
Me and Portia (seth’s niece)
Tanner! Look at those baby blues!
Patience (sister; mama of Portia and Tanner)
Seth’s mama Pam and P

Parents

Nate (oldest brother) and future sister-in-law, Taylor
Seth and T (look at those cheeeks!)

Sadly, the only picture I have of Bobby (brother) and wife, Jen

This morning I woke early for a 7-mile run (hence the make-up less face) then Seth and I cooked brunch for the whole gang!

Portia, my lil helper
Seth’s brother-in-law, Corey (Tanner and Portia’s dad, hubby of Patience)

Menu:
eggs (made to order)
toast
fresh fruit
coffee
fresh OJ (a la my new juicer)

Gotta run! Off to meet up with the crazy clan again before they leave!
Oh one more thing, bet you’re wondering about the Sinless Margarita Giveaway winner, eh?

Happy Sunday Everyone!

>Mr. Super-Deep-Heavy-Breathing-Snot-Blowing-Yogi

>Thank youuuuu, Sunday! Thank you for finally arriving. I’ve been waiting on you for several days now. Why so excited, you ask? Because I’m off today!

You’d think I’d be completely exhausted and sleep til 12 (y’allll know me well), but I actually went to bed shortly after getting home from work last night (around 12:30am) and woke refreshed and ready for the day. I haaaaate sleeping in when I work the evening shift (3-11:30pm). I need some “me” time before work, ya know? The alarm buzzed (who am I kidding? It blasted country) and I happily made my way (in robe, duh) to the kitchen for breakfast and caffeination.

Speaking of caffeine, I have some horrible news..

Rest in Peace, dear friend ❤

Good think I have a back-up (reg coffee pot). I seriously sound like an addict, b.t dubs). But more importantly, anyone know what I should do?? I don’t have the box and bought it from BJ’s less than a year ago…Waaah.

In happier news, I enjoyed a Vanilla Almond Protein Cupcake on the deck.

Mix and microwave ~1.5 mins in evoo-sprayed mug
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (SunWarrior brand)
1 T egg whites
pinch baking powder
1/2 t chopped almonds
~1/8 t almond extract
pinch baking powder
h20, to moisten
stevia, 1 serving

Topping
stevia-sweetened fat-free Greek yogurt
Thanks to this new lil friend.
Aaaand since my frother is still living, I topped steamed soy + cinnamon over brewed Peet’s coffee (my favorite drip at-home drip coffee).

With a side of sun and pup..

Post-digestion, I made my way (aka jogged) to a 90 min Power Yoga class at The Studio DC. This was my first power yoga class and I really enjoyed. It reminded me of vinyasa flow with an athlete’s touch. Right up my alley, don’t cha think??

My only complaint: Mr. Super-deep-heavy-breather-snot-blower two mats down from me. If I was Anna, I would have freeeeeaked (she was closer than me). Now I know I’m no master yogi – I try to focus on my breathing, even if I feel a little funny/embarrassed. And I get the whole breathing philosophy. Trust me, no judgement here. Sometimes one or two fellow yogi’s breathe louder than the rest of the group (combined) and ya know what, do your thang – I can usually drown you out.

But today was on another level. Mr. Super-deep-heavy-breather-snot-blower only breathed out through his nose (kudos to you), but blew snot all over his face and mat the. entire. time. I tried not to focus on him but I couldn’t help it! He had snot dripping from his nose to the floor. BARF.

Snot blower, I really hope we don’t meet again in another class (or he clears up that cold, STAT) because I really did enjoy the class – the parts that I could actually focus on. Moral of the story? If you’re going to snot everywhere in a heated yoga class with 30+ people crammed into a small room, please do one of the following:

 1) Breathe through your mouth
2) Keep tissues nearby
3) Wear a mask
4) Don’t come to class

I prefer numbers 3 and 4. Just sayin‘.

Moving on…

Post yoga and jog home, I was ravishing! I threw together this particularly colorful protein-packed salad. Salad monsters, you never do me wrong.

Spinach
cauliflower
cherry tomatoes
black beans
steamed sweet potato
cucumber
1:1 mixture of Goddess Dressing and balsamic vinegar

* * *

Alright my friends, I’m off to enjoy my lovely day off…and sip a hearty Green Monster Smoothie. This one is particularly delicious (according to the Manfriend)

1 scoop vanilla protein powder (SunWarrior brand)
frozen banana
5-6 frozen strawberries
hand full fresh spinach
ice
almond milk
teeeny but of fresh lime juice (it needed something tart)
stevia, 1 serving
pinch xanthan gum (optional; to thicken)
pinch sea salt

Sooooo…..what shall I do today??? Some ideas I’m throwing around:

– Long run (9ish miles)
– Farmers market
– Pick up laundry (boo)
– “Window” shop around Georgetown
– Cook dinnah (quinoa stuffed peppers?)
– Shameless <–New favorite show!!

Enjoy your Sunday!

>I’m bacckkkkk

>Hi friends! I am quite relaxed after a nice lil vacay from all forms of communication. Well, not all forms – I haven’t had a phone for 4 days now and to be honest, I have a been loving and hating it all at the same time. I’ve relyed on the phone application in Gmail when I’ve needed to make a call and Verizon’s website for free texting. <—Good tools to know!

This morning I went for a leisurely walk with the pup and usually I’d be checking my phone, calling friends/family, texting, Tweeting – you get the picture. Without my lil friend, I was able to really enjoy the walk, soak up the sun, and be present. Next time you’re out of a walk, jog, etc. leave it home. You have a voicemail for a reason 🙂

So what have I been up to for the last few days? Well I’ve…

Worked…..quite a bit .
Shopped….quite a bit (mostly for food and other boring things. Well food is fun but it’s no clothes)
Rested (!). Got 11 hours of sleep last night!
– Squeezed in some good workouts, including a long run (8.5) miles today
– Am sticking to my “I will lift more” promise

And best of all: Have had a blastttttt with my friends!

Here are a few pics from Saturday night.

(hehehe)
We ate at my favorite Thai restaurant, Mai Thai (affordable, trendy, and deeeeelish food) and enjoyed a few cocktails. I rolled with champagne while the rest savored their signature Mai Thai’s. Pretty tasty, but a liiiiitle too sweet for me.
Thai and Japanese are my favorite food genres before a night of dancing. No one feels particularly comfortable dancing the night away with a belly full-o-Mexican or Italian (or perhaps that’s just me).
The weather was ahhhhamzing. We went to a local bar in Dupont Circle and danced the night away on their gorgeous rooftop
Spring is just around the corner…
 I can feel it!
* * *
With the arrival of this gorgeous weather, I’ve been craving cold breakfasts in place of my usual protein oats, pancakes, cupcakes, etc. Two very quick meals that I love to make are:
#1 Chilled overnight oats
Combine and stir:
1/3 cup cooked oats
1 serving protein powder (*see below)
1/2 c fresh or frozen fruit
1/4 c milk of choice (almond, soy, hemp, low-fat, etc.)
sweetener (1 serving, I prefer stevia or Truvia)
teeeny pinch sea salt
Spoon into glass/mug and throw in fridge
Next morning:
Add 1 t chia seeds and/or crushed nuts (walnuts, almonds) for crunch

Enjoy!
And quick breakfast #2 (I make this one when I have 0.25 seconds of time to spare the night before)
Yogurt & fruit bowl

Night before combine & refrigerate:
1 cup fat-free Greek yogurt
1/2 cup frozen fruit
sweetener (1 serving stevia or Truiva)
Next morning:
Stir & add 1 t chia seeds for crunch and healthy omega fatty acids
*Attention SunWarrior Protein loverssssss*: The other day I ordered a new bag of vanilla SunWarrior protein from a company called Vitacost.com (was very pleased with price and quick shipping, btw). To my surprise the goods arrived in a shiny gold bag, quite different than the bags I’ve grown accustomed to.
VS.
Since I was younger and heard about ‘food tampering’ I’ve always been super weary of questionable packaging. For some reason this new bag plus its press on nutritional info labels kind of freaked me out and I was unsure if I actually ordered a legitimate SunWarrior product. Plus the scoop was 1/2 the size of the traditional one
So being the nut-job that I am, I sent a quick email to SunWarrior.
Hello,

I recently ordered your vanilla protein through a company called Vitacost (http://www.vitacost.com/) and my protein came in a shiny gold bag. The green product labels were stuck onto the bag (in a professional way) rather than printed on the bag, like your green bags. Do you know whether I ordered a legitimate SunWarrior product? I am nervous to try it. Also, on the packaging it says one serving equals 1 scoop; however, the scoop is 1/2 the size of the traditional one. Does this mean one serving is actually two scoops?

And I received the following response:

Hi Lauren,

Yes, those bags are legitimate. We are upgrading to a stronger bag, and these stronger gold bags are temporary until our stronger printed bags arrive. The new scoop is the correct serving size. The old scoops were too big. I hope this helps.

Thank you,

Jennifer

This means I’ve been getting 2X as much protein as you thought. To think of it, there are 47 servings per bag and I don’t recall my bags everrrrr lasting that long. I don’t have a problem with the extra serving, but this stuff is a lil pricy so I will be cutting back to the true serving size.
* * *
In completely random news, I’m in lurrrrve with Black Cherry Berry Tea (with a splash of almond milk)
Aaaaand, I can eat Chop’t salads any day of the week…
* * *
Alright kidds, I’m off to BodyPump! Have a great night everyone ❤

>My kinda day

>What a beautiful day today was. I hope the weather in your neck of the woods was juuust as nice. I had the most glorious day off. As I ate my bowl of morning oats on the deck,  sunshine warming my face, I knew it was going to be a good day.

Frothed deliciousness
And a new favorite..
Pumpkin spiced latte oats!
1/2 c oats + 1 t chia seeds (soaked overnight in 1 cup almond milk)
1/3 c pumpkin (organic; canned)
1/2 cup vanilla protein powder (SunWarrior brand; added after cooking)
1 t instant espresso
1/4 t cinnamon
pinch nutmeg
stevia (1-2 servings, to taste)

Party in my mouth.

Michael also found the day quite relaxing..

* * *

Later in the day the Manfriend joined me for a ‘power hour’ yoga class at a nearby Vinyasa studio. I don’t think he quite knew what he was getting into, judging by the 10 gallons of sweat on his mat. Muuuhaha 😉 I love how [many] guys think yoga is “not a workout”.

I’ve been searching for a new yoga practice as the warmer months approach. Bikram has been a love in my life for 3 years now, but I find myself dreading my 2 days/week practice during the ridiculously hot and humid DC summers. A 105F studio (with 40% humidity) is so not appealing to me when it’s already in the 100’s. 90 degrees, I can handle. I want to crave yoga all year round and not practice because I have to (for running purposes).

I loved the class but would also like to try a few other kinds, such as ashtanga, forrest, and hatha. If you practice, what’s your favorite kind of yoga?

Lunch was bomb. No other words to describe this one. Last week, a reader commented that they tried Magic Soup and added a little light coconut milk. Following her lead, I created hands down my new favorite sauce/soup, Coconut Curry!

Combine these
(Per serving)
1 c red pepper/tomato soup
1/4 c light coconut milk
Then add:
1/4 – 1/2 t curry powder
1/2 t chili powder
pinch sea salt
pinch cayenne pepper

I topped the soup over steamed veggies (brussel sprouts, zucchini, broccoli) and diced medium-firmness tofu. ❤

So easy. So good. Definitely a keeper.

I spent the rest of the day spring cleaning and managed once again to come up with 2 (stuffed) bags of clothes for donation. I swear my closet is never ending with stuff I never wear. It must be magical. Actually I lie, I spent about an hour cleaning, took a lovely walk, picked up a coffee, and somehow ended up at my spa for an eyebrow appointment (how’d that happen?). I was blessed with almost white eyebrows so every ~2 months, I get them waxed and tinted brown. Makes a huuuuge difference. Otherwise, they look shaved. HOTT.
I must have been so relaxed from the yoga and spa-soothing music, because I completely passed out and my esthetician had to wake me up! Embarrassing much? 😉
To top off the already lovely day, I made it to a BodyPump class (keeping my promise of more yoga and lifting!) then made homemade pizza with a cauliflower/flax meal crust (recipe to come!) for me and ma sis.
My kinda day.
* * *
See ya tomorrow kids. I’m working 7a-7p tomorrow then having dinner with Sara
XX,
Laur

What’s your favorite kind of yoga?

My sister says hi

So does Michael 🙂

>Sweet ‘n spicy deliciousness and giveaway winner!

>I am like a kid in a candy store in Whole Foods. I swear I can walk around bright-eyed for hours in that place. This morning I woke in the mood for chocolate! And so I choc-ed it up, protein-cupcake style.

Chocolate – covered Strawberry PC
Timberrrr!
 Ingdedients:
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I use SunWarrior brand, it’s da bestttt)
5 thawed frozen strawberries, mashed
1 T egg whites
1 t chia seeds (optional, good source of omega’s)
pinch baking powder
stevia (1 serving)
h20 to moisten (~2T)

Directions:
Mix with fork until brownie-like consistency
Spray coffee mug with cooking spray
Microwave ~1 min 30 secs

Top with sweetened low-fat Greek yogurt
 * * *
Post-digestion, I hit up ‘bucks for the usual “Venti Pike’s Place coffee with 1 inch steamed soy”. Tip: If you think Starbucks is a little too strong for your taste buds, ask for Pike’s Place. It’s their lighter blend. Deeeeeeeeeelish.
Now back to Whole Foods. Not kidding, I think I spent 1.5 hours there. And I didn’t even eat, ha! I did score some major goods however. Some notable mentions..

(click to zooom)
Flax seed meal (ground flax seeds; can’t wait to use in pizza crust)
Almond meal (ground almonds; gonna make homemade protein muffins and cookies)
Coconut butter (heat a little in microwave the drizzle over oatmeal, toast, etc. Great source of healthy fats)
Black Cherry Berry tea (just tried and ahhhmazing)
Nutritional yeast (we all know how much I use this stuff)
Organic Lite Honey Mustard dressing (planning a salmon dish with this one)
Raw bee polin (a prebiotic and a natural sweetener)
Spirulina (probiotic; add to smoothies)
Pesto paste (all organic ingredients. Just add EVOO. And sans parmesan so allergy-friendly)
Maca powder (good source of vitamin C and known for crazy energy boost. Add to smoothies. Love the stuff)
After cleaning the kitchen and re-organizing (stay tuned for a “what’s in my kitchen” post coming soon), I made hands down the best salad I’ve had in a looooong time. Sorry to toot my own horn, but toot toot 😉 First I cut up lot of veggies..

Spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots and avocado
Then added diced Tempeh
(And garbanzo beans (chickpeas), sunflower seeds, sea salt, and black pepper)
Next I made the dressing. I used my favorite hummus in the whole wide world, Jalapeno and Cilantro (Trader Joe’s). If you don’t have a TJ’s near you, you can add some fresh cilantro to traditional hummus (and a teeeeny bit of diced jalapenos if like a kick).
Sweet n’ Spicy dressing (1-2 servings)
4 T hummus
2 T nutritional yeast
1/2 – 1 t honey
water, to thin out consistency

(Dressing was so good that I forgot to snap a pic until after I inhaled it)
Add dressing and mix.

The spice of the cilantro was perfectly complemented by the honey. The hummus and avocado added nice texture while the sunflower seeds added the perfect amount of crunch. I not kidding when I tell you this is the best salad I’ve had in long time. Get on it 😉
* * *
If you’ve been following my workout schedule, you can see that I’ve clearly been slacking on the weights and yoga – two very important components of running. I blame it on vacation and catching the spring running bug. I took a BodyPump class yesterday and it felt great to be back. Tomorrow I willlll do yoga. Hold me to it 😉
Have a great night everyone! I’m heading to the gym then it’s a girls night out 🙂 What are your plans???

This morning I woke with legit (I need to stop saying that word) the puffiest eyes. Speaking of phrases that need to stop, who watches any of the 50 thousand Kardashian shows? Well I do (ha, no shame). Despite my love for the girls antics and outright redicoulousness, I haaaaate when they say “Bible”.Bible, I just saw the hottest pair of Christian Louboutins” or “Bible, I need to hit the gym like woah“. Yes, you swear on the Bible. But “Bible” does not equal ” I swear”. So let’s not make this a trend. Mmmmm, K?

OK, back to the puffiness. I needed coffee stat. And not just any cup of joe since I have my new frother..

Drip
Froth
 Spoon
 Savor
Seriously though, get one of these. I think I paid $20 for mine on Amazon.

* * *

And now time to share a few new [kitchen] toys with you. I posted about my recent outlet success at Under Armour and Nike and now time for the reeeeeeeal fun stuff. Yep, big geek over here.

New knife rack. No slots, so fits all shapes/sizes.

Not sure what to call this, a ‘spoon rack’?
Basically I make a huuuuge mess on the counter when using the same spoon over and over during cooking. Now it has a happy home.

Looks prettier than a big ole bottle of olive oil sitting on the counter, no?
Olive oil mister! No more spending $5/bottle on PAM spray! Just fill with oil of choice and mist away.

Haaate the way (call me crazy) these Starbucks syrup bottles look. My sister is weening herself off the artificial crap so I figured this might help in the “out of sight, out of mine” category. Eh, it still looks better than before.

* * *

Well I’ve successfully procrastinated all morning day, and neeeeeed to get a workout in before work tonight.

What’s your procrastination workout of choice? Mine is running! No loss in time traveling to the gym.

Don’t forget to enter my Giveaway! Takes 2 seconds. Bible 😉

>Well we made it. Me, my mom, and dad ran our 5th half marathon together, the Dasani half in Myrtle Beach. We left when the sky looked like this…

(Pretend smiles. Leaving at 5:30am on a Saturday is no fun, my friends.)

But the skies quickly turned..

Beauteous.
* * *
I finished in 1:45 (unsure of net time because it took a while to cross the finish line). Despite the beautiful pictures above (which were taken near our home, a la Manfriend), I was very disappointed by the race course. I ran this half three years ago and 90% of the course was along the ocean. This year, zero %. The race was close to the water, but to see it you had to peer between the tall surrounding buildings (and that was if you had good eyesight). Yes, it was flat so a good qualifier for Boston. But I would save your $$ if you’re thinking about flying here, renting a hotel, etc. Will I run it again? Probably. But only because we own a home here (free stay) and it’s a good excuse to take a mini-vacay.

One amazing thing happened however… A WOMAN won the marathon! And there were 7,000 runners!

Mama-dukes coming in for the finish

* * *
After a good race, it’s time for some good eats (a la my sister)..

2 over-easy eggs cooked in EVOO spray
whole grain bagel thin
strawberries, banana
OJ
* * *

I’m off to get some outlet shopping in!

How are you spending your Saturday?

Have you ever been very disappointed by a race course?

>Life’s a beach

>Greetings from Myrtle Beach, SC!

We arrived yesterday evening after a loooong car ride (our 6-hour journey took about 8 – whoops. I blame it on Starbucks and my tiny bladder.) This afternoon we took the pup down to the beach and let him run free. And wow, that little man can run!

He made the cutest little friend. Have you heard of a Chug? It’s a chihuahua and pug mix. So cute!

After sprinting around for a while we parked our butts in the sun and enjoyed a beach-side cocktail..

(Pure happiness here)

Have you met my mom? We kinda look alike…

My dad..
(Not so much. Wish I inherited his tan.)
* * *

Well I‘m off to get crackin on a new running playlist then head to bed for our 6:30am (waaah) Half Marathon! Wish me luck, I definetly need it for this one (kinda slacked in the training dept, ha).

Happy Saturday!

Laur
